With the ultimate goal being a healthier running Subaru, this AOS supplements the factory PCV system by separating the harmful oil vapours from the crankcase before entering the intake. Insuring cleaner intake charge.
Why is oily crank case vapours bad?
Oil going back to the intake will coat everything in the intake track, and once it reaches the combustion chamber it will reduce the octane rating in the air fuel mixture causing detonation, (knock / pre ignition). Detonation is the number one killer to squeezing performance out of a Subaru engine.
Is this a catch can?
kind of, but much better than a catch can. Where a catch can ultimately takes oil out of your oil system and reduces the scavenging effect on your PCV system, the AOS keeps the PCV system intact but separates the oil out of the air and draining it back into the oil sump, where its much needed on a Subaru. The clean air then goes back into the intake just like in a regular PCV system.
Will it freeze in the winter?
No, not anymore than a regular Subaru PCV system would. For additional peace of mind this system is routed to the factory cooling system which provides it with heat on really cold days. Most freeze ups happen due to poor installations and routing of the lines. Be sure to have us at Lakeview Automotive install your AOS for a job done well done.

The Subaru EJ oiling system is in sufficient to say the least, and especially for a turbo charged car. The oiling system is a major culprit for over half of Subaru engine failures that we deal with at Lakeview Automotive on a daily basis.
For starters, the oil capacity is only 4.3L which is low for a turbo charged engine, as turbo engines tend to consume more oil by design. This low capacity leaves no room for error and once the engine runs low on oil it will starve the rod bearings causing major engine malfunction.
The IAG Performance oil pan increases the oil capacity by 30%. Also, the IAG perfromance oil pan includes cooling fins, together with the added capacity, oil will enjoy a much needed drop in temperatures under high performance conditions.
Also, under high performance conditions such as high G force cornering, the factory oil pan does not do a good job in keeping the oil by the oil pick up. This is a major concern, as this will starve the oil pump of oil, thus starving the engine of oil, and again, causing rod bearing failure (major engine malfunction).
IAG Performance has a solution, that is the baffle and windage tray. Designed to keep the oil where it needs to be, this system is a must on any Subaru seeing any track use.
Lastly, is the oil pickup. The Subaru oil pickup is known to fail by cracking around the welds, again, starving the oil pump of oil, thus starving the engine of oil, and again, causing rod bearing failure (major engine malfunction).
IAG Performance solves this issue by designing out all the flaws in the OEM Subaru pick up and producing it out of better materials.
The IAG Performance oil pan package is a MUST on any Subaru fitted with the EJ25 engines (STI, WRX). Even if the car is kept stock these oiling system modifications will save you from major and costly engine malfunction. At Lakeview Automotive we install this kit on the daily.

As mentioned above, the Subaru oiling system leaves somethings to be desired. While the OEM Subaru 11mm pump is adequate for mild builds, once higher power levels are achieved with a built motor and its looser tolerances, more flow is needed. Especially under track use where oil temps start climbing and pressure starts dropping.
IAG Performance has us covered by CNC porting and blueprinting the Subaru OEM 11mm pump. The results are 11.1% more oil than the OEM 12mm Oil Pump, and 12.4% higher than the OEM 11mm Oil Pump.
