Ford Gasoline Direct Injection Service
As the picture above explains, all Ford EcoBoost models run a direct fuel injection system. This means that the injectors inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber rather than on the intake valve like in port injection systems. While there are many benefits of direct injection, there are some disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage is that the fuel is no longer sprayed on the intake valve and cleaning it. As a result, the intake valve becomes caked with oil and carbon brought on by the PCV system and EGR system. This will cause loss of efficency, power, and in some cases drivability and also cause misfires on start up.
Here at Lakeview Automotive we tackle this issue by consistently applying BG GDI induction clean service every 20,000 KMS. This service is a solvent that runs through the induction system while the engine is running cleaning the intake valves for a duration of 1 hour.
In extreme cases, when these services aren’t kept up, and the buildup becomes excessive to the point of misfires, we have to physically remove the intake manifold and clean each valve manually. This is a lengthy process and should be avoided by keeping up with direct injection cleans.
