4 Signs Your Suspension May Be Failing

Cruising down the highway is supposed to be a smooth ride. You may run over a small bump or two, but generally, your truck or car can handle it, and you notice little if any change. However, there are times when your trip down to the store seems bumpier than expected. What can cause you to bounce and shake when you drive over a bump? It is possible that your vehicle’s suspension system is wearing down or failing. No longer can you trust your dependable vehicle to get you down the road smoothly. Instead, you feel each crack in the street. No one wants to feel out of control as their Ford or Subaru shimmies after each bump. Instead of ignoring things, reach out to your trusted mechanic shops in Calgary and get back behind the wheel, confident that things are fixed on your suspension.

4 Ways Your Car’s Suspension May Fail

We all want the smoothest ride possible. Unfortunately, when the suspension system breaks down, not only do you lose comfort, but you can put yourself and your passengers in danger. Here are four signs that your suspension system needs some TLC, fast:

  1. Weak Springs: If your car tilts to one side, there may be a weak or broken spring. You can conduct a simple test by parking on a level surface, placing all your weight on either the hood or trunk, letting go, and seeing how many times it bounces. If it takes more than one or two bounces, you may have an issue with the suspension and should have it checked out at your favourite automotive shop in Calgary.
  2. Oil on Shock Absorbers: Your suspension is designed to withstand bouncing over cracks and bumps in the road through the springs. While the springs take the brunt of the bounces, the hydraulic fluid-filled shock absorbers eliminate any leftover movement to give you a smooth ride. When hydraulic fluid leaks from the shocks, it winds up on the springs, and your comfortable ride will get bouncy.
  3. Damaged Bushings to Anti-Roll Bar: No one wants to travel around a curve and have their vehicle roll over. Yet, that can happen when the bushings on each side of the metal anti-roll bar wear down or break. As a result, you may notice some knocking or squeaking when you make turns. If you do, contact your mechanic shop in Calgary to have the bushings replaced.
  4. Balding Tires: Good tread gives you a smoother ride and better traction on the road. When the tread gets to 1/16th of an inch, they are considered bald and dangerous to your ride. You will often notice that road noise has increased. Don’t take chances. Replace balding tires fast.
